Rotherhill Nurseries recognises our part to play in the protection and regeneration of our landscapes and the importance of our entire ecosystem. 

  • Rotherhill Nurseries comply with all current environmental legislation & Policies and regularly review and prepare for and upcoming requirements relevant to the company.
  • We have an extensive range of plants for for pollinators, clearly signposted with our plants for purpose signs.
  • We promote and encouraging ecological diversity in planting schemes through specialist advice and growing a wide range of approved plant species to encourage wildlife and biodiversity
  • We continually improve our environmental performance by setting targets
  • To prevent as far as possible or reduce pollution to all environmental mediums, including air, water
  • and soil, arising from our business activities.
  • We will input an environmental plan to effectively deal with any incidents or emergencies.
  • To ensure efficient use of water and waste water disposal.
  • We manage our waste successfully by reuse (where biological security allows) recycle and and reduce. 
  • We are an advocate a natural approach to pest control first, encouraging the importance of creating a functioning ecosystem. 
  • We take steps to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • We use minimal sprays on our plants preferring to use natural pest reductions over chemical insecticides. 
  • We do not use any Neonicotinoides.
  • We have reduced out Peat use by 60%.
  • We have a successful system of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) at Rotherhill which has almost entirely removed any use of chemical pests and diseases control, with significant increases in monitoring and successful biological controls.
  • We used many types of Nematodes on our stock with great success and encourage our customers to do the same. 
  • Throughout the nursery we have insect houses, bird boxes, hedgehog and toad houses that are all regularly used by the nature that coin habits the nursery with us. 
  • When we had to replace an old barn on the Nursery we put up House Martin, Swift, Swallow, Sparrow Owl and kestrel boxes. (It was a big barn)
  • We have bluebell woodland which we manage for nature.
  • We have a large reservoir overflow pond which we have planted with indigenous marginals, trees and plants to provide a nature spot on the nursery. 
  • This policy will be reviewed annually. 

 

We are continuously reviewing our Nature and The Environment policies and are aware that as good as we are we can do more for the amazing world we live in.
