Hedging Spacing

Hedging Spacing

Use this page to give you a rough idea of how many plants you might need. However, please do always speak to us for specific advice, as the ideal spacing often depends on both the variety and the grade of plant.

Bare Root and Root Ball Deciduous Hedging

40–120cm tall plants – 7 per metre

120–180cm tall plants – 5 per metre

180cm+ tall plants – 4 per metre

Bare Root and Root Ball Evergreen Hedging

40–120cm tall plants – 5 per metre

120–180cm tall plants – 4 per metre

180cm+ tall plants – 3 per metre

Potted Stock

2 litre plants – 4 to 5 per metre

5 litre plants – 3 to 4 per metre

10 litre plants – 2 to 3 per metre

Please remember that these are general guidelines only. Some varieties naturally grow much wider than others, and some customers prefer an instant hedge while others are happy to wait a little longer for it to fill in.
